Thomas Friedman in the Times:
Saudi donors today still constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide — not to mention the fundamentalist mosques, charities and schools that spawn the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan. So basically our oil payments are cycled through Saudi Arabia and end up funding the very militants whom our soldiers are fighting.
…
America lacks leverage in the Middle East because we are addicted to oil. We are the addicts and they are the pushers, and addicts never tell the truth to their pushers
Off topic: congrats on gettin' quoted in that AP article on Tshamba. Was sad to see that they didn't mention Officer Webb's* name (although they sort of told his story). I thought his death could have used further exploration and explanation.
* I think his name was Webb. Raymond Webb, IIRC. The guy that was like a 44 year veteran.
Thanks. I didn't know about that article! Just reading it now. (The reporter interviewed me for that a long time ago.)
I'm not certain who this Webb is.
Are you confusing him with Norm Stamp, the 44-year-veteran officer who was killed on Haven Street in 2008?
I think the jury made a very correct decision in that case.
Yes, I was. I see that some versions of the article mention his name. Didn't know they had the civil trial. I am good with the verdict. Glad it went to a civil trial and that the widow was well-represented.

ps: I think I was mixing Ivory Webb and Raymond Bunn. I wonder if either of those gentlemen are back working in law enforcement.
