PCM,
I'd like read your thoughts on this Walter Russell Mead blogpost about the Drug War. He outlines pros and cons and is somewhat skeptical. He does have a funny line about the the War's failures that comes from a Coast Guard officer friend. He says that if terrorists ever wanted to smuggle in a nuclear bomb they should hide it in a shipment of cocaine since the Guard's interdiction rate is so low. blogs.the-american-interest.com/wrm/
One concern of Mead's is that legalization will bring about a proliferation in drug testing by all sorts of employers or in order to qualify for government benefits. (i.e. student loans) Employers may be legally liable for emlpoyees found to be on drugs so they will be obligated to test them.
What are your thoughts?

Beats me. But I'd really see the connection. I do know that drug testing is a result of the War on Drugs. So I can only hope that ending the drug war would reduce drug testing.
Somehow every other country in the world manages just fine with crazy drug testing…
