In Maryland, it costs $86 per day to lock a person up.

And how much does it cost to educate a K-12 child for a day in Maryland? I bet it’s considerably less.
My suspicion too.
It costs about 1/4 as much, when adjusted for the fact that kids aren’t in school over the summer.
$31,390 for jail or prison in Maryland.
Compared to just under $10,000 per year per student nationally.
But in “The Real Cost of Public Education” Andrew Coulson of the Cato Institute says DC public schools spend about $24,600 per student (much more than the commonly cited figure of $8,322). Private school in DC spend about about $14,600.
