The part I think is interesting is that the assault part sounds made up, and it sounds like it was made up to provide cover for a false arrest where excessive force was used.

Except for the Pogan case, all of the links posted by Cleanville Tziabatz(explain the name please), and other anonymous posters which are purported to "catch the police lying" seem to be cases that are still unresolved. Is there any additional information that makes the posters think these cases represent misconduct?

Prof. O'Donnell speaks out against the h8'ers:
“There has been a spate of particularly brutal and senseless attacks on the police,” said O’Donnell, a former police officer and prosecutor in New York. “It seems to me, an unprecedented level of disrespect and willingness to challenge police officers all over the place.”
He said a rise in mental health problems and scathing criticism of police, such as the comments found on some blogs, could be fueling the brazenness and disregard for authority.
Ramos said that he didn't think he hit Tong, but that may actually have been a lie.
Sadly, no charges for the partner.

Thanks for the additional video, P.O. Ramos pretty clearly hit the guy. The only thing I can say, and I think Ramos has said, is that maybe the guy who was hit said he was okay and didn't need an ambulance. That doesn't excuse them from calling an ambulance if the guy was obviously badly hurt.
Tough to defend this seemingly irrational decision by Ramos without getting into issues not understood by the general public and cop haters. I have to say though, that prosecuting Ramos for Assault is over-charging.

Cleanville, you seem to be a well educated guy who believes that the police should perform flawlessly in every situation. You leave no room for human emotion or flat out error in police response.
I don't know where this expectation comes from. Until we invent robots who can enforce the law, we will have situations where cops don't perform perfectly. All we can do is improve screening of people interested in policing as a career and weed out people who don't seem to handle it well.
Did P.O. Ramos do wrong? Yes. Was he being reckless while driving his car? We don't know, but since this is the act underlying the assault charge, we need to know more before we put him in jail. Consequently, reckless driving is a charge that could be pursued against most drivers in mv vs pedestrian accidents, but it seldom happens, because the public retains the luxury of making mistakes.
Should Ramos do jail time for lying to investigators? If prosecuting people for perjury in N.Y. State was common practice, maybe. This case is not even perjury though, since there was never any court testimony. So, no.
If you can take a step back for a second… Although Ramos had a duty to report the accident, leaving the scene seems not to have injured Mr. Tong any further. Ramos did not lie in a situation that would deny anyone their liberty, he lied to save his own skin. Big difference, but still bad. So in my mind, Ramos' actions leading up to the accident are still unresolved (he had his emergency lights on for some reason), and Ramos' actions after the fact did not harm anyone further. Should he go to jail? No.

Perhaps more than any other police misconduct video that has come out in the past two years, this one really gets to the heart of what is wrong with modernday US policemen.

Johnny, I've found the best thing to do when somebody comments too much is to simply ignore that person.
There are blogs out there that highlight bad police behavior. But my blog isn't it. Carlos Miller comes to mind. So does the Agitator. Both are good blogs.
Speaking of Carlos Miller, as some of you have, I can't help feel for the guy, despite his questionable attitude. I mean, taking pictures where he did isn't illegal. So says the authority. And yet security guards keep busting him for taking pictures.
Call me a anti-government right-wing militia, but I believe people should stand up against illegal abuse of authority. Taking pictures isn't my thing, but I'm not a photographer. If they told me I couldn't read on the subway, I could see myself getting a bit militant about that.
Why is everybody so harsh on the guy for taking pictures where it is allowed?
