I worked with Lt. Butler in the Southern District. Great guy. I had heard that the department threatened to transfer him to Central Booking if he doesn't stop talking to the media. Good for him for taking a risk and continuing to speak out. It's not clear to me that the department couldn't lawfully discipline him for what he's doing. It's a close call under First Amendment law.
More than a little bit self serving. I also note that the NYPD reeelected the a**hole Lynch so the rank and file cops are prettyhappy with their leadership's "war on accountability"
