“If police have to come and get you…”

“…they’re bringing an ass-kicking with them.” — Chris Rock

Here’s videoof Houston police beating a 15-year-old burglar. He was convictedback in October. But the video of the arrest was just now released.

Did he “deserve it”? I’m not going to go there. But police should take note: seven officers no longer have jobs. And for what? To give some 15-year-old a lesson? It’s not worth it.

  1. actually, he may not have been one of the robbers at all. Oops, sorry, jj prefesser/

  2. 4 of them did not just lose their jobs, they have been charged with 'official oppression'

Seems to be the charge in Texas that cops get hit with when they get caught beating people. Its a misdemeanor.

  3. Gosh, of course, he may not have been involved at all. Who can say? So I guess he might be innocent, just taking his morning constitutional when seven police cars chased him for no good reason. Come to think of it, he might be more than innocent. He may be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ Himself! The police say he's not. But who would believe them? And since we weren't there, I guess we'll have to assume the best. Well, if not Jesus Christ, perhaps he's Gabriel. Oops, sorry…

All I know is he was convicted of burglary, which makes him a burglar.

  4. "Official oppression"? That's a charge I can get behind! It's got so much more oomph that plain old "assault." Plus, it allows cops to joke, when leaving the police station:

"Going to official oppress anybody today?"

    "Naw, not officially."

  5. He was convicted of burglary in a town full of people who think the beating was a good thing and not a bad thing. I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in the verdict.

Police chased him because he was with the burglars. Doesn't make him a burglar.

I think he probably did the burglary, but that is not the standard and I don't put stock in the integrity of this verdict at all. The main evidence is that one of the other burglars said Holley was at the burglary, but who knows what kind of sweetheart deal police gave the snitch given the existence of the surveillance video. As badly as people up in the Union states are reacting to this video, there would be a worse reaction without the fig leaf of the guilty verdict. HPD knew that and probably budgetted accordingly.

    Don't believe the hype.
