  1. I had to laugh when some of the cops started throwing the bricks back. Guys, there's a news chopper overhead and I'm guessing that's outside the old use of force policy.

  2. I know. It is an understandable reaction. But you need to think bigger picture. For some people, that is all they will take out of this.

  3. Right? A bunch of us up in the detective unit watched that live and there was a collective laugh/cringe.

  4. Well, I saw the evening news tonight as the CVS and other businesses were looted and burned and wished that the streets were still calm like yesterday's post. Alas…

  5. No one should forget that rioting is fun for the rioters. College kids do it on a regular basis, and spring is a popular season.

Hell, if there were zero consequences to anyone, trashing, looting, an burning a retail store is something I could get behind.

Beats the hell out of golf.

  6. Given what the video shows, and the fact that Officer Miller was not arrested before the protests started, none of this is surprising. Whether, or not, there was appropriate legal support, consistent with the Constitution, to tackle Freddie Gray is a debatable subject.

HOWEVER, dragging Freddie into the back of the police van, as shown on the video is probable cause beyond argument. Before I watched the video I expected it to be less inculpatory than it was. Based on the video, there was is a reason to believe that those three vertebrae in his neck were broken before his was carried to the van. Maybe (just maybe) the breaking of the vertebrae was legally justified, but loading him into the van like that was not. Of course there are going to be violent protests when a video like that comes out and nobody is in jail preparing for his bail hearing. I don't agree with the violent protests. I don't agree with burning, looting or brick throwing. However, all of that could have and should have been abated here by a couple of select arrests made well ahead of the troubles (which is to say, the second the top brass saw the vid).
