“To say it’s all the fault of racist cops is letting the system off the hook”

A quote from me in an interesting article by James Reinl in Al Jazeera. I go on to say:

“Some people honestly believe that cops don’t shoot white people and don’t give tickets to white people for minor issues. This view is demonstrably false,” Peter Moskos, a former Baltimore lawman and academic at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, told Al Jazeera. “Let’s get the facts right and then talk about injustice – because there’s plenty [of injustice] out there, but police provide a [too] easy scapegoat.”

  1. Hello Mr Moskos, I wasn't sure which post to put this question through. Have you written any thoughts on the situations in Ohio? Tamir Rice or John Crawford? I really appreciate reading your blog, even when I disagree with your conclusions. 🙂 I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on those situations and the comments made by the CPA President, Mr Follmer. Thank you!

  2. Regarding Tamri Rice:

As to Follmer, why make a mountain out of a molehill? He's tone-deaf to everything going on outside of his union bubble. I mean, a 12-year-old kid was shot and killed. Even if it is a legally justified shooting (as I think it is), that doesn't make it objectively good.

People, police included, are often best served by keeping their mouth shut.
